"Welcome to Buttonwillow Union School District's website! Thanks to everyone in Buttonwillow who contributes to the success of our students."

Buttonwillow School fosters a positive learning environment, mainly through the individual attention afforded students through small class size, dedicated faculty, bilingual instructional aide staff, co-operative parents, and a caring community.

With continuous curriculum planning and modifications, ongoing staff development for improved instruction, and a commitment by all faculty and staff to meet the needs of our students, we at Buttonwillow School will continue to work exceedingly hard to provide a quality standards-based educational program for all of our students.

Buttonwillow Union School District Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Buttonwillow Union School District to provide a high quality, academic standards - based education to all of our students, and to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each of our students.  We believe that all children can learn, and that a high quality education delivered in a nurturing manner is key to each child's success.

Buttonwillow Union School District enjoys the support from Board of Trustees and staff. These individuals provide excellent leadership for the School District. This partnership will be more important than ever in the years just ahead, as we strive to achieve our goal of making Buttonwillow Union School District a preeminent research and an unsurpassed commitment to education.

Buttonwillow Union School District & Semitropic Elementary School District

CSU Bakersfield's Math and Science Teacher Initiative and the Buttonwillow & Semitropic School District will partner to host camp BLAST!, a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) academy.

Buttonwillow & Semitripic students grades 4-7 are expected to attend and will be able to choose from three themes of education in the Engineering Design Process (EDP): rocketry, “trash 4 teaching,” or video technology. Each theme will include activities where students can learn with hands-on experiences, including rocket building, a solar oven demonstration, and video recording on iPads. Students will keep STEM journals, in which they will complete daily thought experiments connecting the EDP to new learning from their most recent activity or challenge.

New Law

Please be advised of a new law in California (Assembly Bill 354) requiring ALL STUDENTS entering the 7th through 12th grade in the 2013-14 school year. Students entering these grade levels are now required to receive a booster shot against pertussis (also known as Tdap). Pertussis or Whooping Cough is widespread.

If your child 10 years and older has not yet received the ‘Tdap’ pertussis booster shot, please contact your doctor or health department. Getting a booster shot now will protect your child against the ongoing threat of pertussis. Adults are also advised to get a pertussis booster shot, if they haven’t already, to protect themselves, their families, and their students.
